Chocolate Dobash Cake

I know I just made a chocolate cake, but I wanted something that was a tiny bit sweeter and fluffier. I decided to try my hand at a Chocolate Dobash Cake, Hawaii style.  It has layers of cake and pudding-like frosting that is light and delicious!

Chocolate Layer Cake

I felt like I needed to take a break from making cookies and realized that I don't have a good chocolate cake recipe at hand. There are thousands of search results on the internet for chocolate cakes, but my colleague forwarded this Chocolate Layer Cake recipe to me, and naturally I wanted to try it out. This is a recipe that comes from Emily Luchetti, a two-time James Beard Award recipient.

Soft Japanese Cheesecake

Today felt like a cheesecake kind of day, but more of the lighter Japanese souffle type of cheesecake kind of day.  This is really a moist and fluffy cheesecake that is pretty easy to make if you have all of your ingredients ready to go. I had all of the ingredients and some time so I decided to whip up a cake.

Brown-Butter-and-Vanilla-Bean Weekend Cake

This week's Tuesdays with Dorie recipe is the Brown-Butter-and-Vanilla-Bean Weekend Cake. It is the very first recipe in Baking Chez Moi. It doesn't require many ingredients, but it makes a pretty tasty cake. I think that the rum was a little overpowering for my taste, so if I were to make it again, I'd omit it completely.

Gingerbread Buche de Noel

This seemingly simple cake was quite a project! Thanks to Tuesdays with Dorie, I pushed myself to make this recipe (which I initially overlooked immediately after seeing it in Baking Chez Moi because it looked too complicated for me).  This cake turned out to be more fun to make than I thought!  There were 4 steps to this cake: 1) Praline; 2) Cake; 3) Filling; and 4) Frosting.

Apple Weekend Cake

Although there was no photo in Baking Chez Moi for this Apple Weekend Cake, I had a general idea of what it was supposed to look like.  According to Dorie, the French use the term "weekend cake" because that's how long these cakes will last before being completely devoured.  I also learned from her book that the French will call anything that is loaf-shaped a gateau (cake), vs. what we may call bread (i.e., banana bread, zucchini bread, etc.).
